The landscape as seen by those in the northern towns of Hokkaido, Japan. The majestic mountains, the scent of the shifting seasons, and the quiet comfort they bring. We seek to capture the everyday lives of those who live and breathe in harmony with the passage of time, hoping to craft a collection of images that reveal the timeless beauty of the north.
WHO WE ARE
KUANI, meaning "I" in the Ainu language, is a film studio that, true to its name, focuses on deeply personal themes. We produce a wide range of visual works, including films, documentaries, and commercials. In 2022, our short film “Like You” received the Best Foreign Short Award at the Nordic International Film Festival. In 2024, our feature documentary “Northern Food Story” was selected for the Culinary Cinema section of the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival.
